YallaSplit — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 October 2026

YallaSplit is a bill-splitting app made by Orbita. This policy explains exactly what the app does with your information. It is short because the app collects very little.

The short version. YallaSplit does not require an account. Your bills are stored only on your phone. When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent to our scan service, read, and deleted right away. We show no ads and we do not sell or share your data. Anonymous usage statistics are collected only if you turn them on.

No account, no sign-up

You can use every feature of YallaSplit without creating an account or signing in. We never ask for your email address or phone number, and we have no user database. The app asks what your friends should call you so shared messages can say who split the bill. That name stays on your phone.

What is stored on your device

  • Your bills. Item names, prices, the people you added, charges, and totals. They are saved on your phone and are never uploaded.
  • Your saved groups. First names of people you often split with, so you do not retype them.
  • Your name and CliQ alias. The name you entered, and an optional CliQ alias or mobile number that friends can use to pay you back. Both stay on your phone and are only added to messages you choose to share.
  • Your settings. Currency, default tax and service rates, language, and your privacy choices.
  • An installation identifier. A random identifier created on your device the first time you open the app. It is not derived from your device's hardware or advertising IDs and is not linked to your name. It is sent to our scan service to count your free scans, and it labels your anonymous usage statistics if you turn those on.

You can remove all of this at any time with "Delete all data on this phone" in Settings, or by deleting the app.

Receipt scanning

Scanning a receipt is optional. You can always enter items by hand.

When your phone is online, the receipt photo is sent over an encrypted connection to the YallaSplit scan service, which runs on Cloudflare. The service passes the photo to Google's Gemini API, which reads the text and returns the item names, prices and charges. The photo is then discarded. We do not store the photo or the text it contains on any server of ours. The app tells you this before your first scan. Google's handling of the photo is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and its API terms.

Along with the photo, the app sends the installation identifier, the app version and whether the phone is an iPhone or Android. We use these to count scans against the free monthly allowance and to protect the service from abuse. The service keeps a count of scans per installation for the current month and nothing else about you.

When your phone is offline, the receipt is read entirely on your phone using Google's ML Kit text recognition, and the photo does not leave your device.

App settings from our server

When the app opens, it asks our server for a small settings file, such as the number of free scans and the minimum supported app version. This request includes the installation identifier so the app can show how many scans you have left.

Usage statistics and crash reports

These are off unless you turn on "Help improve YallaSplit", either on the welcome screen or in Settings. You can turn it off again at any time.

When it is on, the app uses Google's Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to send anonymous events, such as the app being opened, a scan starting or finishing, a bill being split, and a bill being shared, together with crash reports. These carry the installation identifier, the app language, and general device information such as phone model and operating system version. They never include names, CliQ aliases, item names, or exact amounts. We do not use advertising identifiers and the data is not used for advertising.

Camera and photo library

The app asks for camera or photo library access only when you choose to scan a receipt, and uses it only to obtain that image. It does not browse, index, or upload anything else from your photo library.

Sharing a bill

When you share a bill, the app opens WhatsApp with the message ready to send, or hands the text to your phone's share sheet. Where it goes from there is your choice and is handled by that app, not by us. We never receive a copy.

What we do not do

  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers
  • No selling, renting, or sharing of personal data
  • No analytics unless you turn them on
  • No location collection
  • No contact list access
  • No storing of receipt photos

Children

YallaSplit is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your control

You can delete any saved bill from the History screen. "Delete all data on this phone" in Settings removes your bills, saved groups, name, CliQ alias and settings, and creates a new installation identifier. You can turn usage statistics on or off in Settings at any time. For any other request about your data, write to us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts doing something this policy does not describe, we will update this page and change the date above before that version ships.
